The Label Means Nothing Without the Story Behind It
We hear the phrase "Black-owned" thrown around a lot these days — on storefronts, in marketing copy, on social media posts. And honestly, that visibility matters. But we also know that a label without a living story behind it is just a word. At Silly Nice, we are not Black-owned because it's a talking point. We are Black-owned because this brand was built by Black hands, from a Black family, rooted in one of the most iconic Black neighborhoods in America — Harlem, New York City. That is not a branding strategy. That is who we are.
When we launched in March 2024, we weren't walking into a smooth, well-paved road. We were carving a path through a brand-new adult-use cannabis market that had its own barriers, its own gatekeepers, and its own pace. And we were doing it as a small, family-operated team — Veteran-owned, community-rooted, with every dollar invested coming from people who believed deeply in what we were building. Understanding what makes a cannabis brand truly Black-owned in New York requires understanding not just the ownership structure, but the full weight of what it means to show up and compete in this industry on our own terms.
Ownership Is Just the Beginning
Being Black-owned in cannabis means having meaningful equity, decision-making power, and cultural accountability. It means the people who look like us — who grew up in neighborhoods like ours — actually have a seat at the table when it comes to the products being made, the communities being served, and the profits being reinvested. For us, that accountability runs deep. Every product we put out, from our Diamond Powder at 86.24% THC to our Diamond-Frosted & Live Resin Infused Flower carrying a verified 51.22% THC, is a reflection of our integrity. We sign off on everything. Because this is our family's name on every package.
New York's Cannabis Market and Why Black Ownership Matters Here
New York State has one of the most talked-about cannabis legalization stories in the country, partly because the conversation about equity has been front and center from the beginning. The communities most impacted by prohibition — disproportionately Black and Brown communities — were supposed to be prioritized in this new legal market. That commitment looked different on paper than it has looked in practice, and many of us who are actually in this space know that the fight for real equity is still ongoing.
That reality is part of why we take our presence so seriously. Being a Black-owned brand with real products in over 150 licensed New York adult-use dispensaries isn't just a business milestone — it's a statement. Every time someone walks into a licensed shop and picks up a Silly Nice Frosted Hash Ball or a 2G All-In-One Vape in Alaskan Thunder Fuck, they are supporting a brand where the ownership, the creative direction, and the community investment all flow back to a Black family from Harlem. That matters. That is the version of equity that actually shows up in the world.
The Harlem Factor — Culture as Infrastructure
Harlem is not just an address for us — it is the foundation of our perspective. Harlem has always been a place where Black culture, Black business, and Black excellence have thrived even under pressure. We carry that spirit into everything we do. The way we design our packaging, the way we talk to our community, the way we show up at events and dispensaries — it all comes from a deeply Harlem-informed worldview. When New Yorkers support Silly Nice, they are supporting a brand that is genuinely of this city, not just operating within it.

What Veteran Ownership Adds to This Conversation
We are not just Black-owned — we are Veteran-owned. And in the cannabis industry, that combination is rare. Our military background shapes how we operate: with discipline, with accountability, with a deep respect for the people we serve. Veterans, particularly Black Veterans, have a complicated and often painful history with cannabis — one that includes disproportionate criminalization both in service and in civilian life. Building a legal, quality-driven cannabis brand is, for us, a reclaiming of something that was weaponized against people like us for decades.
That service-informed mindset also means we do not cut corners. Our products are independently lab-tested and small-batch crafted. When we list that our Bubble Hash comes in at 53.32% THC or that our Pink Stardust 510 Vape Cartridge tests at 81.96% THC, those numbers come from verified, third-party lab results — not marketing copy. Adults 21 and older who choose our products deserve to know exactly what they're getting. Transparency is not optional for us. It is a core value that comes from years of operating in environments where accountability is life or death.
Small-Batch, Family-Operated, No Apologies
We are a family operation, and we are proud of that. In an industry increasingly dominated by large multi-state operators and well-funded corporations, being small is actually a strength. Every batch of product we release gets the kind of attention that only comes when you personally care about the outcome. Our sustainably packaged products reflect a commitment to doing things right — not just fast. From our Frosted Hash Ball at $50 per gram to our premium Diamond-Frosted & Live Resin Infused Flower at $60 per 3.5 grams, every price point reflects genuine value, not inflated margins on underfunded product.

The Difference Between a Black-Owned Brand and a Black-Fronted One
This is a conversation the cannabis industry needs to have more honestly. A brand can put a Black face on its marketing, feature Black culture in its campaigns, and position itself as community-aligned — while the actual ownership, profits, and decision-making remain firmly outside the community. That is not Black ownership. That is Black exploitation dressed up in progressive language. We want our community to be informed consumers who know how to tell the difference, because that knowledge is power.
True Black ownership means that when the business succeeds, a Black family wins. When decisions get made about product quality, pricing strategy, community partnerships, and brand direction, Black voices are the final word. At Silly Nice, there is no board of outside investors steering us away from our community commitments. There is no corporate parent company sanitizing our voice. What you see is what we are — a Harlem-born, family-run, Veteran-owned cannabis brand that is answerable first and always to the people we come from.
Ask the Right Questions Before You Buy
We encourage every adult 21 and older who cares about supporting genuine Black ownership in cannabis to ask some real questions when they walk into a dispensary. Who actually owns this company? Where does the revenue go? Is the community that inspired the brand actually benefiting from its success? Is the product backed by real lab results or just good graphic design? These are not hostile questions — they are responsible ones. And we welcome them about Silly Nice every single time. Our lab results are public at sillynice.com/menu. Our story is not hidden. We are not hard to find.
Building Generational Wealth in a Legal Market That Owes Us
Generational wealth has historically been denied to Black families in this country through systems that were designed to exclude us — from redlining and discriminatory lending to drug laws that disproportionately criminalized our communities while white-owned businesses quietly laid the groundwork for today's legal cannabis industry. We are in this space because the legal market is one of the few places right now where the rules are being written in real time, and where Black entrepreneurs who show up early and do the work have a genuine shot at building something lasting.
When you support Silly Nice — whether that means picking up our Diamond Powder at $50 a gram, recommending us to a friend, or following along and spreading the word — you are participating in something that has real stakes for a real Black family. We are not asking for charity. We are asking for your consideration and your trust, which we intend to keep earning through quality products, honest communication, and continued presence in the communities that made us.
Scaling Without Selling Out
Growing from launch in March 2024 to placement in over 150 licensed New York adult-use dispensaries in less than a year is something we are genuinely proud of. But scale has never been the goal at any cost. We are committed to growing in a way that keeps us connected to our values, our community, and our product standards. Bigger does not mean better if it means losing the care and quality that made people love us in the first place. We would rather be the best small-batch Black-owned cannabis brand in New York than a bloated brand that forgot where it came from.
We Are Here, We Are Harlem, and We Are Just Getting Started
What makes a cannabis brand Black-owned in New York is not just paperwork or percentages. It is culture, commitment, accountability, and the willingness to show up every day in a market that did not always make space for us — and build anyway. It is being a Veteran-owned family from Harlem that pours its name, its integrity, and its love into every gram, every cartridge, and every conversation with the community. It is making sure that when New York talks about the legal cannabis industry, brands like ours are visible, viable, and here for the long run.
We are Silly Nice. We are Black-owned, Veteran-owned, family-operated, and Harlem-built. We make small-batch, independently lab-tested cannabis products for adults 21 and older who deserve to know exactly what they're getting and exactly who they're supporting. If you have been looking for a brand you can trust with your dollars and your loyalty, we are here. Come find us at a licensed dispensary near you, check out what we have on the menu, and let us show you what it looks like when Black ownership in cannabis is not a slogan — it is the whole story.
