Your valid Salvadoran passport is all you need to prove your age and identity at a licensed New York cannabis dispensary. Some dispensaries may also accept a valid national ID card with a date of birth, but a passport is always your safest choice.

Under New York State law, a single transaction at a licensed adult-use dispensary allows you to purchase up to three ounces of cannabis flower or up to 24 grams of cannabis concentrate. This applies per transaction, per retailer. Do not consume cannabis on public streets, in parks that prohibit it, in vehicles of any kind, on public transportation, or in any enclosed public place. The NYC rules largely mirror the city's existing tobacco smoking rules — if you cannot smoke a cigarette there, you cannot consume cannabis there either.

We also want to be absolutely clear: never operate a vehicle or any machinery after consuming cannabis. This is illegal, dangerous, and completely unacceptable regardless of where you are in the world. If you plan to explore the city, use the subway, a cab, or a rideshare — and enjoy your cannabis in a safe, private setting beforehand or afterward.

We cannot stress this enough, and we will not soften the message: do not attempt to transport cannabis out of New York, across any state line, or internationally to El Salvador. It is a federal crime under United States law to transport cannabis across state or international borders, regardless of local legality. The moment you enter a U.S. airport, you are under federal jurisdiction. TSA agents are required to report cannabis to law enforcement if they discover it during screening.

Furthermore, El Salvador's drug laws remain strict, and bringing cannabis into the country could result in serious criminal penalties. This is not a gray area.
