We are Silly Nice — a Black-owned, Veteran-owned, LGBTQ+-owned, family-run cannabis brand built right here in Brooklyn, New York City. We were founded in March 2024 by Shane Breen, a U.S. Army Veteran, and LeVar Thomas, partners for 25 years. We want to be respectful and transparent with our visitors from Taiwan, because cannabis laws back home are very different from what you'll find in New York City. In Taiwan, cannabis is classified as an illegal narcotic under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act. Possession, use, and distribution can carry serious criminal penalties including prison time. This is the reality at home — and we respect that legal framework.
However, when you are physically in New York State, you are subject to New York State law — and here, adult-use cannabis for people 21 and older is entirely legal when purchased from a licensed dispensary and consumed in a permitted private space. What you choose to do within the bounds of New York law is your right as a visiting adult. We simply ask that you are fully aware of what awaits you when you return home: you cannot bring cannabis products back to Taiwan or across any international border.
