We're Shane Breen and LeVar Thomas — two Brooklyn-based founders, partners for 25 years, and the faces behind one of New York's most talked-about independent cannabis brands. Legal Cannabis in New York City: What Every International Visitor Needs to Know
New York State legalized adult-use recreational cannabis in 2021 under the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA). That means if you are 21 years of age or older, you can legally purchase cannabis products — including flower, vapes, concentrates, edibles, and yes, hash — from any licensed adult-use dispensary in New York. You do not need to be a New York resident. You do not need a medical card. Your international passport is a perfectly valid form of ID.

Tajikistan maintains strict laws prohibiting cannabis — possession, use, and trafficking are criminal offenses under Tajik law, and penalties can be severe. Cannabis that is legal to purchase in New York is absolutely illegal to transport across international borders, including back to Tajikistan. It is a federal offense in the United States to carry cannabis through airports or across any international border.
