We are Silly Nice. We're Shane Breen and LeVar Thomas — partners for 25 years, based in Brooklyn, and the founders of a cannabis brand we built from the ground up. Shane is a U.S. Army Veteran. Who Can Purchase Cannabis in New York?

Cannabis is legal for adults 21 and older in New York State. That includes tourists and visitors — your nationality does not matter. If you are 21 or older and have a valid government-issued photo ID such as your passport, you are legally permitted to purchase cannabis from a licensed adult-use dispensary in New York City.

Where Can You Legally Consume?

You may consume cannabis anywhere that cigarette smoking is permitted — but NOT in public parks, near schools, or in most indoor public spaces. NYC does have licensed cannabis consumption lounges where you can legally enjoy what you purchase. Your hotel room may not allow smoking, so plan ahead. Never consume cannabis and then drive or operate any vehicle. Use rideshare, the subway, or walk — NYC is best explored on foot anyway.

Only Licensed Dispensaries — Know the Difference

This is critical: only purchase from licensed, state-authorized dispensaries. Unlicensed sellers — including street vendors and smoke shops operating illegally — sell unregulated products with unknown contents. Bring Your Passport
